Health
Visitors
Health
Visitors are responsible for all children under 5 years old within
the practice. They hold regular “Drop-In” sessions at Loftus
Clinic (near to the library). For many problems of childhood they
should be your first “port of call” rather than the doctor and
often arrange with us for the supply of prescriptions.
Christine,
Fay and Diane
Midwife
Our
experienced midwife will take you through your full pregnancy and
explain about the testing needed during pregnancy.
Marion
Burke
Health
Care Assistant
The
Health Care Assistant (HCA) is the person who takes any blood
samples needed within the surgery. As well as bloods she may also
check your height, weight and blood pressure.
Carol
Hayward
We have a wide range of receptionists, some of whom you will meet at the “front desk” but many more working behind the scenes to help the practice function smoothly (typing letters, printing prescriptions, scanning your hospital letters and results onto the computer).
Gary
Trafford ( Practice Manager)
Gary is in overall charge of the
running of the practice, he can be reached by contacting the
practice directly or by e-mail to '[email protected]'.
Julie Columba (Office
Manager)
Julie organises the running of the office and a lot of
the “back room” functions of the surgery.
Home Visits
Home visits are only for patients unable to attend the surgery. If you require a visit the same day, please ring between 8.30 am and 10.00 am.
Urgent home visits can be rung in at any time.
Out of Hours
If medical attention is needed urgently when the practice is closed (between 6.00 pm and 8.00 am and at weekends and Bank Holidays) please call our dedicated Out of Hours Service on 0870-240-6518. NHS Direct can also be contacted for advice on 08 45 46 47.
The “Out of Hours” service has been commissioned by the Primary Care Trust and is therefore their responsibility.
Late Evening Opening
We offer a late evening pre-booked surgery on a Monday evening.
Saturday Opening
We offer a small number of appointments on a Saturday morning for patients genuinely unable to attend during the week due to work commitments. These appointments are bookable in advance (we are not able to see patients who have not pre-booked as the Primary Care Trust have commissioned this service from a local 'Out of Hours' Provider (currently 'Prime Care').
Prescriptions
Please order repeat prescriptions at least 48 hours in advance of collection. Please put all requests for repeat prescriptions in writing and post in the prescription letter box at the entrance to the building.
Prescriptions can be collected from the Surgery or the Chemist. Please indicate on your request where you would like to collect from.
It is the patients' responsibility to contact the surgery to obtain the results of any tests or investigations. The GP or Nurse will inform you at the consultation when they are expected back at the surgery.
Please telephone for all results between 11 am and 5 pm.
Violent or Abusive Patients
The practice will not tolerate any violent, aggressive or abusive behaviour towards any staff or fellow patients.
If this behaviour is displayed towards staff or fellow patients an application will be made by the practice to remove the offending patient from the list. Unacceptable behaviour includes verbal abuse to staff or any actions perceived as threatening to them.

For all appointments please call after 8.30 am.
We understand that in some circumstances you will need to book ahead. Please notify the receptionist who will try to arrange a mutually convenient appointment.
We have a range of surgery times within our opening hours so please ask the receptionist for the availability at the time.

Teaching
Many of you know that Woodside Surgery has for many years helped to train the next generation of doctors. The new Medical School based at Stockton Campus is the first completely new Medical School in Britain for many, many years and so we are lucky to have this within our area. As a result of this you may encounter students from the very earliest stages of their medical training all the way through to fully qualified doctors who want to specialise in General Practice.
